The EU prolongs restrictive measures against Russia
- 03/07/2017
Since March 2014, the European Union has progressively imposed restrictive measures against Russia, in response to the annexation of Crimea and to the destabilization of Ukraine.
In particular, such measures: (i) limit access to the EU market to five major Russian state-owned financial institutions, three important Russian energy companies and three defence companies; (ii) impose an export and import ban on arms; (iii) curtail Russian access to certain sensitive technologies and services that can be used for oil production.
On 28th June, such measures have been prolonged by the European Council and will then be valid until 31st January 2018.
In response to this, Russia has extended its restrictive measures against the European Union until the end of 2018. Such restrictions limit European exportations to Russia in the energy, defence and agricultural sectors.
