Food: reintroduction of the obligation to indicate the place of production
- 20/11/2017
The recent Italian Legislative Decree no. 145/2017 has reintroduced the obligation to indicate, on the label or on the packaging of food products, the place of production or, if different, the place of packaging of a product.
The said obligation, already provided for by Italian Legislative Decree no. 109/1992, was de facto cancelled due to the entry into force of European Regulation no. 1169/2011, which did not require such indication.
The provisions of the new Legislative Decree no. 145/2017 will be applicable as of 5th April 2019, that is to say on the 180th day following its publication on the Official Gazette. In the meanwhile, the operators of the food sector will be allowed to market the products already labelled according to the requirements laid down by the previous legislation, until the stocks are exhausted.
