Eu innovation: Innovation Scoreboard published in last Tuesday.

The annual European Innovation Scoreboard provides a comparative assessment of the research and innovation performance of the EU countries and selected third countries while The Regional Innovation Scoreboard assess the innovation performance of European regions.

The 2017 edition of both Scoreboards, published last Tuesday, shows that innovation has improved tough large differences between Member States. In particular:

  • Sweeden in once more the EU innovation leader, followed by Danemark (leader in the selected area of human resources and innovation friendly environment), Luxembourg (leader in the selected area of attractive research system and intellectual assets), Finland (leader in the selected area of finance and support), Germany (leader in the selected area of firm investments), Ireland (leader in the selected area of innovation in SMEs and employment impacts), Belgium (leader in the selected area of innovation linkages and collaboration);
  • regional innovative hubs exits also in Prague, Bratislava and Basque Country;
  • innovation performance has improved most in the area of international co-publications, broadband penetration, the  number of university graduates and doctorates, and ICT training;
  • Venture capital investments and the share of SMEs introducing innovations have been in strong decline;
  • over the next two years, innovation performance is expected to increase by 2%;
  • Italy is the 20th Member State in the Scoreboard.
