Entry into force of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
- 24/04/2018
The European Regulation on the protection of personal data no. 2016/679, coming into force on 25th May 2018, aims at the complete harmonization of the legislation on the protection of personal data within the territory of the European Union.
The Regulation, replacing the Italian Legislative Decree no. 196/2003, applies to the processing of data made by subjects established within the European Union, as well as, under specific conditions, to the processing of data of data subjects who are in the Union made by a subject not established in the Union.
In particular, the Regulation provides that European citizens can easily have access to information concerning their personal data and the processing of those data and that they can also obtain the erasure of their data (so-called “right to erasure”).
